The life of a mother is frantic.  Every day is filled with distractions that can make it easy to forget what’s next on your list of things to do. Even when things are written down distractions can make it difficult to remember your “to-do” list. One way to increase your chances of remembering is to have a mental system to keep your thoughts organized. An easy method to use is the HSKT method.

The HSKT method is an easy peg method that incorporates the famous children’s song Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.  You remember the song:

Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes.
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes.
Eyes and ears and mouth and nose.
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes.

By connecting the things you have to remember to things you know really well (your body parts), you create memory pegs that are easy to access. Key steps include:

1)Identify up to 8 ‘to-dos” on your list

2)Identify key images for each “to-do”

3)Combine the each “to-do” image with each one of your body parts: Head, Shoulder, Knees, Toes, Eyes, Ears, Mouth, and nose.

4) Review your list 3 times

Initially this method takes a few times.  It might even feel cumbersome initially, however, once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to do it in rapidly.  To remember more than 8 tasks, add additional body parts to your song. As a result, your “to-do” recall will be a snap!
