Rolling back into the school routine is one of the more stressful times in a family’s year. For moms, keeping it all together and maintaining sanity while getting the kids adjusted to their new routines sometimes feels impossible.

Most memory researchers will tell you that disorganization and stress are major contributors to forgetfulness.  As a matter of fact, the two are interrelated--when we get disorganized, we tend to forget things more easily. And as we forget things, we tend to get more disorganized. And then the stress seems to soar, sometimes affecting the whole family.

There are, however, some tools out there that can help you de-clutter your brain, regain some time, sanity, and memory during this intense time and beyond. Here are some mom-tested apps that can make your life easier.

1) Cozi

Cozi is an organizing app that allows you to organize your family calendar, including keeping track of everyone's schedules, activities and appointments all in one place. It also allows you to create and share grocery lists, to-do's, and chores in real time. It can be accessed and updated from any mobile device or computer. This app can actually help you manage and reduce the chaos of everyday life. What's more, it's a free app for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.  Click here for more information on Cozi.

2) Life360

3) Evernote

Evernote is a great list-management and note-taking app. Back-to-school time brings on a flurry of new lists and to-do’s on top of the usual grocery lists. You can create carpool lists, school supply lists, homework lists, contact lists. Evernote lets you capture, nurture, and share your notes and ideas across any device. It even connects all of your devices. Evernote is a busy parent’s solution for managing these lists and crossing off the seemingly never ending to-do’s. This is a perfect addition to your list of must-download apps! Click here for more information on Evernote.

4) Artkive

Artkive is an app designed for archiving your children’s art work. Clutter is one of the biggest issues that moms deal with. And much as we love each piece that our kids bring home, a good percentage of household clutter is our kids' daily art. What to do with it? Throw it away? Most of us will agree that tossing it goes against every fiber of the fabric that makes us parents. So the piles of it grow around the house. Enter Artkive. Artkive lets parents create a digital catalog of every picture, along with information such as the date and the child's age. Parents then have the option of turning their child’s paintings and drawings into books and other keepsakes. Click here for more information on Artkive

5) Big Oven

Big Oven is an effective meal planning app. This is a challenging time to get everyone back on a regular eating schedule and this tool helps moms make a weekly meal menus based on sales at the local grocery stores. 6) Team Snap

This app is an effective tool that helps you keep all your child’s activity groups organized. Things like car-pooling, snacks-to-sidelines, and coordinating with other team parents on events and games can grow unwieldy as your kids take on more activities. This program helps you keep your tots' teams under control by helping you manage your team rosters and schedules. In addition, it maps your way to your next game, sends out messages to the team, and even organizes photos you take during the games. Click here for more information on Team Snap.

7) Chore Monster

Chore monster is a creative and kid-friendly chore app that game-ifies and incentivizes the process of getting things done. This is the perfect tool for times when it feels like you need a bit of help motivating your kids. You can go into the app as Parent and set up the chores, rewards (ranging from extra minutes of bedtime reading to money and ice cream outings), schedules, and point values for each chore. Then, the kids log into the app to see what is expected of them, when they must complete it by, and how many points each one is worth. Once your child completes a chore, he or she can mark it complete, and you get an alert so you can approve it. As tasks are completed, kids earn points and tickets — points go toward rewards, while tickets are used in the app to collect new monsters. Click here for more information on Chore Monster.
